Graduate pay

What does a new graduate in the financial sector earn? Check out our overview of graduate earnings to familiarise yourself with the pay level as preparation for your first job or the next pay negotiations.

The earnings table shows average monthly gross pay, exclusive of overtime pay, for profiles with your education and year of graduation.

See the pay of new graduates (xlsx)

If, for example, you have a short-cycle higher education and graduated in 2021, it appears from the table that:

  • The average monthly pay in your first year of work in 2021 was DKK 32,532. In 2022, it was DKK 36,788, and in 2023, when your length of service reached two years, the average salary was DKK 38,962.
  • It also appears that the average pay in, for example, 2023 is based on the earnings information of 471 people.

About the calculations in the table

The pay stated in the table shows the total gross monthly salary, exclusive of overtime pay.

The pay is, thus, calculated as follows:

  • Total pay = base salary + pension contributions (own contributions + employer's) + irregular payments (bonus and profit payments).
  • The base salary includes basic allowances and allowances for qualifications and special duties, etc. as well as holiday pay and public holiday payments, increased holiday supplement, gross deductions and any “free choice” scheme payments.
  • To reach the value per month, some figures are initially determined as the payment for the entire past year and then divided by 12. This includes bonuses, profit payments and holiday supplement. We use the concept of pay defined by Statistics Denmark, which is "Standardised monthly earnings, excluding nuisance bonus". This concept of pay comes nearest to the monthly pay on the pay slip..
