Finansforbundet’s International Work

More and more decisions are being made outside the Danish political system. It is important for our members that Finansforbundet is close to where the decisions are made.

About 80 per cent of financial legislation originates from the EU, and about half of the employees in the sector work for a transnational company. The financial sector and labour markets are becoming increasingly transnational. We are pleased to welcome an increasing number of expats to the sector and to Finansforbundet. At the same time, we also see companies that are moving tasks abroad, and this also has consequences for our members.

A transnational reality requires that Finansforbundet is active in a number of transnational forums and builds strong international networks, where we promote the interests of our members. Moreover, we have created Internationals in Finance to welcome expats to Denmark, the sector and Finansforbundet.

The European Union

European regulation and economic governance greatly affects both everyday life and work life for employees within the financial sector. Finansforbundet engages in European affairs to promote the interests of our members as best possible.

At the EU level, we cooperate with NFU - the Nordic Financial Unions - and UNI Europa to address the EU agenda from a Nordic perspective. At national level, we seek to influence the Danish government’s attitude towards EU initiatives to ensure the implementation of EU legislation in Denmark.

Influencing the EU we mainly focus on:

  • Employees - working conditions, competences and employee influence
  • Consumers - good financial advice and customer confidence
  • Companies - competent boards of directors and management
  • The sector - fair competitive terms and equal conditions for growth
  • Society - sustainability,  sustainable growth and job creation

Nordic Financial Unions (NFU)

At the Nordic level, Finansforbundet is part of NFU - Nordic Financial Unions, which was established by Finansforbundet and seven other Nordic financial and insurance unions from Sweden, Norway, Iceland and Finland.

NFU is the voice of around 150 000 employees in the Nordic financial sectors. NFU promotes its interests at the Nordic and European level. By monitoring the regulatory development and influencing the EU, NFU makes sure that the Nordic employee perspective is taken into account.

NFU is present both in Stockholm and Brussels and ensures a continuous Nordic and European cooperation in the financial sector.

As a member, you can benefit from the NFU network as you can get free access to local advice from the NFU member unions, when you are posted or permanently employed in the financial sector in one of the Nordic countries.
