Across the organisation Danske Bank has decided to make 420 positions redundant.

Chairman of Finansforbundet i Danske Bank, Kirsten Ebbe Brich, says:

"I am truly upset on behalf of those who have been made redundant, and my thoughts are with everyone who has been told that their job no longer exists. All affected members of Finansforbundet i Danske Bank have had a union representative by their side, and we will invite them to information meetings about their future situation and provide the necessary legal advice”.

A major task for Danske Bank now is to support the employees who remain.

”The workload is already very high in Danske Bank, so it will be a key priority for us to ensure that tasks are properly prioritised. Today's redundancies must not have the consequence that the remaining employees must run even faster,” says Kirsten Ebbe Brich.

It will be a big point of attention to ensure that all tasks are given the right priority. Today's redundancies must not have the consequence that the remaining employees must run faster.

Concerned about the future
The redundancies are across the entire organisation and to a degree that shakes Finansforbundet in Danske Bank.

She also questions whether the bank is acting too quickly

"At a time when the bank is performing well financially, I am frustrated and disappointed that the bank finds it necessary to a round of redundancies at this scale. Finansforbundet  i Danske Bank wishes the best for the bank, but we disagree that such a large round of redundancies is the right way to promote the bank’s success”, says Kirsten Ebbe Brich.

to close down this number of positions in a period when it has been a top priority to prepare employees for a new technological reality.

Employees are repeatedly asked to be adaptable. When you choose a round of redundancies so massively in the middle of a new
rapidly changing technological environment the employees
have to deal with, it makes no sense to me she says and elaborates:

I can’t help wondering whether enough has been done to train and educate employees. At the same time, I can honestly be concerned about the employees who are left and the overall effect of so many simultaneous redundancies,” she says..

The redundancies affect all parts of Danske Bank.

The business areas most affected are Financial Crime Risk & Prevention, Technology & Services, Large Corporates & Institutions and PC BCPM.
