How to use the table with background data

For each variable, the table shows the number of people for whom we have retrieved salary data from Statistics Denmark and the actual pay spread for the group.

For example, if you have a higher level of education, work in the Capital Region of Denmark or are older than the typical age for your specific field of work, the salary calculator should give you an output result that is higher compared to the corresponding level in the raw data table. The opposite would be true if you have a lower level of education, just started your career or live in, for example, the Region of Southern Denmark.

Example:

The model includes payroll data for 8,714 people working in the category "Private customers – direct advisory services". The payroll data reported by the companies to Statistics Denmark reveal that 25% of employees earn less than DKK 49,891 and 25% earn more than DKK 62,581.

In other words, according to figures reported by the employers themselves, half of the employees in the sector who work with private customers – direct advisory services earn between DKK 49,891 and DKK 62,581, factual figures that cannot be questioned. So, if an employer was to tell you that they hardly know any private customer advisers who make more than DKK 50,000, you can retort that it is factually incorrect because 75% of all private customer consultants do.

The calculations in brief

The pay level in the table is calculated as:

  • Total pay = base salary + pension contributions (own contributions + employer's) + irregular payments (bonus and profit payments).
  • The base salary includes: Basic earnings per standard hour includes the total holiday payments in DKK and consist of basic allowances and allowances for qualifications and special duties, etc. as well as holiday pay and public holiday payments, increased holiday supplement, gross allowances and “free choice” scheme payments.

To reach the value per month, some figures are initially determined as the payment for the entire past year and then divided by 12. This includes bonuses, profit payments and payment of holiday supplement. The salary does not include overtime pay. We use the concept of pay defined by Statistics Denmark, which is "Standardised monthly earnings, excluding nuisance bonus.” This concept of pay comes nearest to the monthly pay on the pay slip.
