FAQs

In this section, you can find answers to the most frequently asked questions about membership of Finansforbundet’s unemployment insurance fund – part of FTFa.

What requirements must be met to get the unemployment benefits?

You are entitled to unemployment benefits if you meet the two requirements here:

  • You must have been a member of an unemployment insurance fund for at least one year
  • If you wish to be fully insured, you must have earned a total income of DKK 263,232 over the past three years (2024 figures). As a fully insured member, we need to see that you are earning max. DKK 21,936 per month (2024 figures). In other words, it would take at least one year to accrue (the value of) the unemployment benefits.
How much unemployment benefit can I get?

The rate of unemployment benefit will depend on whether you are ‘full-time insured’ or ‘part-time insured’ and also on your previous salary or wage. As a full-time insured, you can have 90% of your previous salary or wage paid out as unemployment benefits – albeit max. DKK 20,359 a month before tax (2024 figures).

If you are aged over 30, you must register with and pay into the voluntary early retirement scheme. You must have also been entitled to unemployment benefits on the date that your education programme commenced.

Regardless of whether you are aged under or over 30, an income threshold will also apply to the matter of free membership.

  • If your course is eligible for state education support (‘SU’) in Denmark, you must not be earning more than the maximum annual level of unemployment benefits.
  • If you are a student, you must not be working in addition to your student job
  • If your training is a course combining ‘SU’ educational support and a training allowance, please contact FTFa, of which Finansforbundet’s unemployment insurance fund is part, for more information about your possible options.

If your situation means that you have lost your entitlement to unemployment benefits, and you are unemployed, you can be a free member. You must, however, be registered with www.jobnet.dk and must not be receiving state benefits such as ‘cash benefit’ or ‘rehabilitation benefit’.

Am I allowed to work and also have voluntary early retirement?

Yes, you are allowed to work and have voluntary early retirement too. The hours that you work will be deducted from your voluntary early retirement benefit.

You can also do voluntary work without this impacting on your voluntary early retirement. NB: You must contact us if you are doing voluntary work or considering it.

What should I do to enter voluntary early retirement?

When you reach your voluntary early retirement age, FTFa, of which Finansforbundet is part, will send you a ‘voluntary early retirement certificate’. If you wish to enter voluntary early retirement, please contact us using this link.

You must apply for voluntary early retirement no later than the day on which you wish to begin voluntary early retirement. We do, however, recommend sending the application a few weeks in advance. After this point, we will gather information about your salary/wages and pension from Denmark’s e-income register (e-indkomstregistret); once approved you will receive a letter confirming this, details of your voluntary early retirement rate and other practical information.

How do I apply for holiday pay?

Regardless of whether you are unemployed or working, you must apply for holiday pay on the Tast Selv website.

Go to Tast Selv

On ‘Tast Selv’, you apply for holiday pay either as:

  • an unemployed individual
  • or as a salaried worker

If you are unemployed, it is important to do the following:

  • First of all, use the days of holiday and holiday pay that you have accrued with previous employers before applying for holiday pay.
  • Your holiday card must be signed by FTFa, of which Finansforbundet's unemployment insurance fund is part. If you have a holiday account certificate, however, you can sign this yourself. The holiday account is automatically linked with FTFa. It is important that you only write the days on which you really have holiday on the holiday account certificate.
  • Give the job centre 14 days’ notice of your holiday. FTFa will be automatically notified by the job centre that you are taking holiday, so you do not need to contact FTFa yourself.
How do I apply for maternity/paternity benefits?

You will normally be able to go on parental leave four weeks before the due date of your baby. If you are unemployed, please contact FTFa, of which Finansforbundet’s unemployment insurance fund is part, no later than four weeks before the due date.

Please contact the job centre no later than four weeks before the due date. A decision will be made regarding whether you still have to go to meetings before the parental leave.

‘Udbetaling Danmark’ notifies FTFa regarding whether you will get the maternity/paternity benefits. You will subsequently be contacted by Udbetaling Danmark.
